Values Homework in ACT for OCD

Setting the practice for your values-focused session depends on where you focused and where the client needs some more time and some more practice.

Values Homework in ACT for OCD

If the client is very clear on their values and wants to start taking steps toward their values or taking action, you can simply set their homework as behavioral commitments that are taking action toward their values.

For example, if you worked with them on the bull's eye in using the Bull's Eye metaphor, you could say, what would be some steps that would move that dot a little closer to the center? Then they could talk about what those would be and that could be their homework for the week. For example, they're going to make sure that they spend more time with their children. Obviously, setting those as more specific behavioral goals of like I'm going to do this three times this week for at least 20 minutes at a time, that kind of thing.
