The following is an example of a defusion exercise with a mock client.
This client is a 33-year-old man who experiences contamination OCD. In particular, he fears he will spread STDs to others by touching objects other people touch.
Dr. Morrison: You've done a great job paying attention this week and watching all of these thoughts through your present moment practices? What did you notice? Client: It surprised me to see how many thoughts I have all day long. Dr. Morrison: Right. I was thinking we could dive into thoughts more today. Is that okay with you? Client: Sure.
