Key Points

  1. ACT is an evidence-based therapy approach that has been proven effective in treating different conditions, including binge eating and body image inflexibility.
  2. Psychological flexibility is the goal of ACT, the ability to feel and think with openness, to attend voluntarily to experience of the present moment, and to move life in directions that are important.
  3. ACT is a process-based therapy with six core processes: being present or mindfulness, acceptance, values, cognitive defusion, self-as-context, and committed action.
