Case Conceptualization
The conceptualization process has three main components: diagnostic, clinical, and treatment formulations.
- Diagnostic formulation: begin by exploring the client’s situation. Through a real-life case study, Dr. Petracek explores a client’s triggers, personality patterns, and DSM-5 diagnosis. An accurate and comprehensive understanding of his circumstances informs the subsequent clinical and treatment formulations.
- Clinical formulation: addresses the question of why the client developed addictions. Dr. Petracek examines predisposing factors, including past experiences and the current environment, to gain insight into underlying causes.
- Treatment formulation: developing a plan to facilitate change, deciding on treatment goals, strategies, and interventions aimed at supporting the client to overcome addictions and take other beneficial steps.
