When we accumulate problems, they start to feel unmanageable and we feel overwhelmed. Maria was trained in problem-solving by targeting the conflict with her roommates. It was a significant problem because it was triggering for her, and made it more difficult to cope with panic attack symptoms.
The practice of problem-solving has 10 steps.
1. Define the problem.
- “My roommates are verbally harassing me.”
2. Brainstorm possible solutions.
- Do nothing, just let it slide.
- Confront the roommates.
- Speak to the case manager.
