Couple Presentation

Dr. Squyres Groubert talks about a couple she worked with to help them recover from an affair and rebuild trust in their relationship. Mark, the head of concierge services at a high-end resort, and Lisa, a nurse, were a couple in their early 50s. They met at a liberal arts college in Massachusetts in their late teens, and had been married for 25 years. They had no children by choice and, for most of their marriage, enjoyed an urban lifestyle and lots of recreational travel.

Presenting Complaint

They presented for couples counseling after Mark admitted to having an ongoing sexual affair for the previous 18 months. Lisa discovered it when she reviewed their credit card bills and saw Mark had spent thousands of dollars he couldn’t account for. Mark confessed to buying luxury items for Samantha, the 21-year-old coworker he’d been sleeping with.
