Working With Values
The second process, that of values, is also often worked on early in therapy. People have different ideas about what values are or aren’t, but in ACT we think of values as being verbs and adverbs, qualities of action that feel consistent with the type of person you want to be.
A value may be something like adventurous, creative, courageous, or humorous. It’s less important to identify specific value words with clients, and more important to have conversations about what matters to them.
